Most of the Halloween tickets sold in Green River this October go to the same place. That's true of the paranormal investigations at the library, the haunted maze at Expedition Island, the Friday night ghost bus downtown and a costume deadlift at Evers Park. The money goes to the Sweetwater County Library Foundation, which supports the county's libraries and the Community Fine Arts Center. Halloween also falls on a Saturday this year, so the Foundation's biggest new event and the 31st are the same weekend.
One foundation behind most of the calendar
The Foundation has run Ghost Walks for years. Lisa Frint, its Executive Director, calls them "this long-standing community tradition," as quoted by the Green River Star. New this year is Twisted Tales, a large haunted maze and Halloween festival that will fill the Expedition Island Pavilion from Friday, Oct. 30 through Sunday, Nov. 1. Lindsey Travis, Director of the Sweetwater County Library System, said the Foundation is "kicking off its fundraising efforts" with it. That puts the maze at the start of the Foundation's fundraising, not off to the side as a one-time event.
Frint also said the Foundation is "working to expand the Ghost Walk Crew's event lineup and create some new experiences." One event this year comes from outside the Foundation and still sends its money there. Haggit Barbell's 3rd Annual Halloween Fundraiser gives all proceeds to the Sweetwater County Library Foundation.
So the month builds toward the island. It starts with small events inside the library and ends with three days in the pavilion.
The weeks before the island
The Ghost Walk Crew is part of the Library Foundation. On Saturday, Oct. 10 and Saturday, Oct. 24, it will take guests through the Sweetwater County Library in Green River after closing, with sessions at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. each night. Guests hear about the building's history and its reported paranormal activity. They also use investigation equipment to try to collect evidence on their own. Tickets are $20, with a limit of two per person. Each time slot has only 20 spots. Wyo4News's Halloween guide showed Oct. 10 sold out, and the 9 p.m. session on Oct. 24 too. When it was last checked, the 6 p.m. session on Oct. 24 still had spots.
"A haunted library is the only place where a shush from the dark actually makes your hair stand up. And boy, do we get shushed!"
Tiffany Kennah, Ghost Walk Crew member
Two daytime events fall between those Ghost Walk dates:
- SCCDC Annual Trunk-or-Treat, Saturday, Oct. 17, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Sweetwater County Child Developmental Center, 1715 Hitching Post Drive. It's free, and food trucks are planned.
- Haggit Barbell's 3rd Annual Halloween Fundraiser, Saturday, Oct. 24, 4 to 7 p.m., at Evers Park. It's free and includes a trunk-or-treat, a costume max deadlift and a raffle.
On Oct. 24 you could go to Haggit's event at Evers Park in the late afternoon, then the 6 p.m. Ghost Walk at the library, and spend the whole evening on events that fund the library system.
The library itself has a quieter project running. Its current events page lists a Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest that takes pumpkins Oct. 19 through 24. Voting starts Oct. 26, and the winners are announced Nov. 2.
How the maze weekend is built
Each section of the maze is a "chapter" based on a classic book. The list includes Alice in Wonderland, Grimm Brothers fairytales, War of the Worlds, The Island of Dr. Moreau, The Haunted Dolls' House and Herbert West–Reanimator. Daytime runs are the "not-so-scary" version, with fewer actors and fewer frights. Night runs add scare actors, lighting, sound and special effects.
The table below follows the official schedule on SweetwaterMazes.com. Some earlier listings differ from it on Saturday.
| Day | Daytime, noon to 4 p.m. | Night, 5 p.m. to midnight |
|---|---|---|
| Friday, Oct. 30 | Day maze, $10 | Night haunt, $12 ages 12 and under, $15 ages 13 and up |
| Saturday, Oct. 31 | Candy Crawl only, $5 for guests under 18; free Trunk-or-Treat outside | Night haunt, same prices |
| Sunday, Nov. 1 | Day maze, $10 | No night session |
Saturday's daytime slot is the detail most likely to trip families up. The website's overview describes a "Day & Night Haunted Maze" for Saturday. The detailed schedule says the daytime slot is "Candy Crawl Only," and the ticket page sells regular daytime admission for Friday or Sunday only. If you want young children to walk the milder maze, Friday afternoon or Sunday afternoon is the time to go. The ticket page describes the night haunt as intense and "not recommended for younger children without a parent/guardian present."
The pavilion has more going on than the maze. Plans include two photo stations, a DJ, food and drinks with Halloween cocktails in the evening, a gaming trailer, a mobile bookshop, tarot card and aura readings, and raffles. Local restaurant and retail partners are handing out $2-off maze coupons while supplies last.
Friday night is downtown's turn
The Ghost Walk Crew is also running the Ghost Ride Haunted History Bus Tour on Friday, Oct. 30. Buses leave Expedition Island every hour from 5 to 10 p.m. They loop through downtown Green River while guides tell history and ghost stories and riders use real ghost investigation equipment on board. The last stop is the Sweetwater County Library, then the tour returns to the island. Tickets are $25, and all proceeds go to the Library Foundation. For anyone who missed out on a Ghost Walk ticket, the bus tour still ends the night at the library.
Saturday the 31st, in order
Halloween on a Saturday lets the island's daytime events, a motorcycle ride across town and evening trick-or-treating all happen on the same day. The official site pitches the Trunk-or-Treat as something to enjoy "before heading out for an evening of trick-or-treating."
- Noon to 4 p.m., Expedition Island. The Twisted Trunk-or-Treat is free, with decorated vehicles from businesses and organizations across Sweetwater County lined up around the island. The $5 Candy Crawl runs at the same time inside the maze. It's a scavenger hunt for candy stations, for guests under 18.
- Noon to 5 p.m., 440 Uinta Drive. The 20th Annual Haunted Harley Ride at Flaming Gorge Harley-Davidson is free and includes a rolling poker run, games and a costume contest.
- Evening. Neighborhood trick-or-treating. Check with the City of Green River for any recommended hours before setting a plan.
- 5 p.m. to midnight, Expedition Island Pavilion. The full night haunt. Kids 12 and under pay $12, and anyone 13 and up pays $15.
Some calendars still carry Halloween events from past years. Two examples are the Green River Recreation Center's all-day candy giveaway and the downtown Monster Bash trunk-or-treat. The listings that came up print a Friday, Oct. 31 and a Saturday, Oct. 11, weekday pairings that match 2025, so confirm any date before planning around them this year.
As of Oct. 1, the Foundation was still looking for sponsors, raffle donors, trunk-or-treat and Candy Crawl registrants, and volunteers. To get involved, contact Lisa Frint at [email protected] or 307-372-9599. Tickets and the full schedule are on SweetwaterMazes.com.
